So we are just about to close on our first house!
It’s in an up and coming neighborhood with a lot of potential. The issue is that the house is about 20 minutes away.
Our kids attend school in our current neighborhood. (One not yet in school but will be attending next year). The new area doesn’t have a school closeby yet so we are considering finishing the year off at the current school (closing date in December so the last 6 months of the year). Our kids are quite shy and have such a hard time adjusting and making new friends.
There’s another school but it’s about a 10 minute drive (without rush hour traffic). So we are thinking, if we already have to drive a long enough distance with traffic, it should at least be to a school they know and with friends they already have. There’s a new school being built but not until 2023.
Anyone have experience with this? Is this a terrible idea? I honestly can’t imagine doing a 20 minute drive 2x a day, especially with a younger kid in tow. And a school bus isn’t an option because it would be about an hour for the morning and an hour in the afternoon. Our kids are still young so we don’t want to put them on a bus for 2 hours a day everyday.
Long term – I see the potential in this house. The profit is promising. The neighborhood is full of young new families (like us). And this isn’t our forever house. We want to live here for about 4-5 years then move to a bigger house.
Any advice, suggestions, or words of encouragement welcome!
A very worried but cautiously excited mama!
