Hello all, I just bought my first home and it was an out of state move from Ohio to Tennessee. After getting two different periods of heavy rainfall, my basement has been flooding. Not major flooding, but enough to be a problem. It pools up around the perimeter and can get 2-3 inches in some spots. Now the seller did not disclose anything about flooding in the basement and I am almost certain this isn’t a brand new issue. The inspector did not say anything either, but it was obviously dry when they were there. I spoke with my next door neighbor and he told me that the previous owner was aware of the basement flooding and that he “fixed” it, though it is clearly not fixed. I have a foundation repair company coming out to inspect further, but I am anticipating a hefty price for the repair. I don’t know the legal ins and outs or whatever, but is there anything that could be done in this case since the issue was not disclosed to me prior to purchase? or am I basically on my own with this one? is there like a lemon law but for houses? lol any input is appreciated, thanks.
