Are mobile homes a bad idea?

I live in Florida – close to Tampa and the housing market is out of control. I have always rented but rent is increasing by astronomical amounts and I can’t afford it. I can’t get a loan for a house either. It would be enough for a mobile home. What I have read about investments is that in general it’s a bad idea unless you just need a place to live – which I do…
It seems you can either buy the lot or the home. At least in my price range… (under 100k).

I don’t want to rush into anything but also don’t want to keep waiting and have everything get more expensive.

I’m open to suggestions
