I am trying to buy a house (first time) and have made an offer, gotten mortgage approval, and scheduled the inspection.
I’m trying to get an insurance quote currently which is required for the mortgage to be fully approved.
There are a bunch of questions, but the only one that I can’t find the answer to is the age of the house.
There doesn’t seem to be any documentation that gives the exact age, the owner doesn’t know, the realtor doesn’t know. I’ve checked every real estate site I can find that might have some extra info. None know the age. I expect it to be 100+ years old just based off the layout and a few particular features (such as maid’s quarters with its own staircase), but it is in unusually good condition for the age so I’m not sure if it was just built in that style much later, or heavily renovated.
The insurance company won’t even give a quote without being able to give them the age. Where can I find this information and is there any workaround if I cannot?
NS, Canada if relevant.
