Hi there! My wife and I recently got married, and we are thinking of applying for a mortgage and buying our own place. Surprisingly none of our parents have any experience buying property, and I’m afraid of getting scammed. That’s why I’m asking for a piece of advice here.
As I’ve mentioned before, none of our parents bought their houses themselves. Both our dads got their homes from their parents. Everything they know is how to renovate them, but nothing about signing montage contracts. At the same time, finance and reading legal agreements aren’t my forte either.
At the moment, we are renting a condo in George Town. But, I’ve got a job in Myrtle Beach and am about to sign a long-term contract. So, that’s why we are thinking of moving to Myrtle Beach permanently and buying a house there. Besides, the area is excellent, and the most significant advantage is that the beach is close by. I always loved that town when I was a kid and dreamed that I would move closer to the ocean one day.
So, after I’ve got that job offer, we started browsing for a house there. We obviously started with Zillow. But, we couldn’t find anything. The website has some serious issues with the lack of images. I know that many people search for a property via this platform. Still, in the area we are interested in, they have fewer options. We don’t have any experience purchasing our own property and checking documents for the house. I know that real estate agents should assist during the whole process. Still, I’m not sure if I can trust them completely.
I’m very interested in hearing you about your experiences with real estate agents. What should I know and expect from one when I buy my own house? Any piece of advice will be highly appreciated.
