We were thinking about putting an offer on a home listed for 289K. It had been up for 4 days and already had 2 other offers at the time. My buyer’s agent was able to get details from the seller agent – 1 was below list, and the other was above list.
The lender we’re using is supposedly superior and quick to close. So, my agent pushed this as a selling point. The seller’s agent told my agent what lender the above-list offer was using. Apparently, the seller’s agent promised my agent that we’d get the house. We decided paying above listing wasn’t worth it, so we never officially made an offer.
30 days later, the house is still listed and has never even had a pending sale. While it’s impossible to tell, what’s the more likely scenario–that the seller’s agent BS’d us, or that there was some sort of collusion between our agents to strike a deal?
