Advice/Perspective Needed

Last Saturday, 11 days ago, I found an apartment advertised on Craigslist. I texted the listed landlord who said the Apt was still available and we agreed to meet the next day, Sunday.

We met and he showed me the apartment and we had a pleasant interaction, much like the 6 previous apartments I looked at.We discussed that we had 2 cats and he said that was fine. He agreed to send me an application, and did so later that day. I turned it around immediately and got it back to him Sunday night.

My wife and I are middle age, with credit scores of 768 and 708. Our housing cost to income ratio is 20%. Non smokers with no background issue’s whatsoever. By all other measures, normal everyday people.

The landlord texted me Monday that he had received the applications and was waiting for confirmation from the apartment building manager that an additional parking space was available. He said that most likely a parking spot would be available, and that he’d know tomorrow, Tuesday.

After not hearing from him on Thursday I texted him and asked him for an update. He replied with the same answer that they were still waiting and a spot was likely available and that he would know tomorrow, Friday.

I emailed him Saturday and called on Monday and let him know we are still interested in the apartment and asked him if there would be a spot available.

It is now Wednesday and no response. We sent him our application with confidential information about our salaries, addresses, etc. and put our apartment search on hold, thinking we would get this apartment.

I am now starting to think this is either a scam or he just doesn’t have the nerve to say our application is denied.

We have spent the last 11 days waiting for this. We will certainly move on, but I really want to let this guy know how unprofessional this is, or report him to ? As a scammer.

Advice/perspective greatly appreciated.
