Hello, I’ve always had a dream to invest in real estate overseas and use it as an airbnb rental (which I can block out to travel to when I want to). I have US & EU citizenship. I don’t own anything in the US, by the time I was done traveling/ready, it seems like we’re in a bubble here now, so I’m going to wait. I was wondering if anyone has experience doing this and if so, how complicated it was? With a down payment, can you get a mortgage in these countries or do they expect cash payment? Also, if you have any recommendations (specific countries/cities) that are not only airbnb friendly but where it is common for foreigners to buy property. Does anyone know if having property overseas will factor it’s way into my debt-to-income ratio (since we use the FICO credit score here in the US)? I’m not sure if they use the same system abroad or if each country will have a different system for credit score? My goal is to acquire at least 2 places abroad, with the potential for more if all is going smoothly.
Places I’d like to consider to start (if you have experience with these places, let me know). Would still like to hear of your experience with other places for future thought. – A vantage point in South America (I liked Colombia, Peru, and Chile) but don’t have citizenship obviously – A vantage point in Europe (thinking Spain, Italy, or Portugal) but maybe I should consider central/eastern Europe instead for a higher ROI? Thanks for any information.
